Student Life in KMU & Taiwan

Last year I left my home country, half a world away, for an academic adventure in a faraway land, Taiwan. Also known as Formosa, Taiwan is just off the coast of China, a tropical paradise on the other side of the world. In between munching on the succulent native fruits and enjoying biking alongside mountains, I am pursuing higher education in this multicultural world.
Kaohsiung Medical University is a prestigious institution of medical education in southern Taiwan that has an advanced medical education system and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration. It is an institution that inspires young minds for research and improvement upon medical knowledge. It is a university with a diverse student body from nations all over the world that combines both its international and local students into one environment that fosters cooperation amongst varying fields.
Leaving your home country to study in a completely new school and experience a different culture may seem daunting at first thought. However, the staff and students at KMU are quick to make you feel at home and at ease. Personally, the transition was seamless as the school was most welcoming upon my arrival, and several activities and programs were arranged for us international students.
My time in Taiwan and in KMU has been a most fulfilling one. The collaborative efforts and focus on advancement of education and knowledge is clearly evident. Professors are keen to engage their class and promote thought provoking discussion. However, life in KMU is not limited to just its academics. It also believes in creating a well-rounded individual, and there are many extracurricular clubs and programs throughout the year to partake in. You will be quick to make friends both local and international. There are so many cultural attractions, good restaurants, beautiful temples and natural attractions to explore here. One key thing that I have learnt during my time here is to keep an open mind and try to embrace the local ways. Being in Taiwan is an education in itself. It has allowed me to accept new viewpoints and broaden my horizons. Taiwan is a truly amazing country that has touched my heart, and I hope it touches yours!
