Enews314 My experience study in the Graduate Institute of Medicine (GIM), Kaohsiung Medical University

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Erna Sulistyowati. Originally, I am a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, Malang Islamic University, Malang, East Java province, Indonesia. I have been studying a PhD program in the Graduate Institute of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung city, Taiwan, since three years ago. Fortunately, my husband has been also studying his PhD program in the similar city, Kaohsiung. So that, we are allowed to bring our kids altogether with us.

Several years ago I was dreaming to study PhD abroad. I was attempting to find out the universities and countries those were appropriate for me to pursue PhD program. Finally, I decided to continue my study at the Graduate Institute of Medicine (GIM), Kaohsiung Medical University. In my opinion, because I am a doctor of medicine (M.D) and my former master degree was in biomedicine, therefore I extend my PhD in the same major. If I can say, since I have been studying in the GIM, I reach what the biomedicine students goals. We learn the theory and put it in the research design and then make it through the experimental laboratory. All the teachers and the staffs are easy to help and assist the graduate students to study and work in the laboratory. Otherwise, we are freely to choose any laboratory which is suitable with our interest. For instance, I like to study herbal medicine, so that I choose pharmacology laboratory. All instrumentations and materials are provided for students. The school gives training or courses, not only equipment utility-related but also software program-based which the students need for. About the language, the school provides English-based lectures and courses. By contrast, the students are invited to join free Chinese class. For moslem student like me, there has been a prayer room available. I feel satisfied with the school’s services though there are still problems we might face. But, I think it was minor problem that we can solve it. Additionally, the school will contact the students if there is problem regarding school’s services and facilities. Those are all my experience that I can share for in order to know how convenience we study in KMU, especially in the Graduate Institute of Medicine.
Regards,
Erna Sulistyowati
